Digital transformation and the new normal for IT departments

How many times have you heard of the term digital transformation in 2020? If you follow the technology market or large media channels, your answer is likely to be “many.” The popularity of IT teams skyrocketed during the pandemic, making professionals more than essential pieces of the corporate puzzle.

IT at the service of business strategy

Being ahead of codes and servers is no longer enough. The leaders of the area must become increasingly involved with the business strategy and respond to the entire production chain’s operations. They become the link that connects a new digital culture with a focus on increasing revenue.

The I.T. leaders were important decision-makers in the survival of many companies this year. A clear example is the excellent adherence of the home office in the day to day of organizations. Infrastructure teams have shown extreme competence in implementing and monitoring technologies to maintain productivity. In many cases, these companies should replace the traditional face-to-face model of working for the coming year.

In 2019, a company with 100 employees performing its functions inside an office will rethink the investments related to the structure after 2020. The amount, which previously invested in the maintenance of commercial offices, can be applied in another sector or operations to impact the business positively.

Resumption of growth with Digital

There is no doubt that 2020 was a lesson for all of us. More than a transformative moment, we learned that the search for innovation must be an ongoing task, not just projects in the queue, which are never in the pipeline.

A survey by the company Robert Half, a global human resources consultancy, showed that digital transformation is the main effort of companies to respond positively during the post-COVID-19 period.

According to Fernando Mantovani, general director of the company, among other challenges, the use of new technologies will be vital for the recovery of the industry.

Culture change

Digital transformation is not just in digital environments; it is in people and the integration of areas. When we listen about cloud migration, operating at a reduced cost is not the only benefit. For the financial area, it could mean a vital spending goal. However, other advantages are security increasing, greater developer productivity, and speed in processes. When adopting the digitalization of processes, the CIO’s role is an agent of transformation to understand the contribution and impact on the business.
